K-Astral 8 models

The very latest from Onwa Marine Electronics, an astonishingly low cost-chart plotter considering the very high-end features. Onwa have always designed and produced the best value marine chart plotters with affordability at the top of their design priorities and this latest is the best ever. Great features such as:

High sensitivity touch screen – and yes, it works when completely wet

New 1024x768 resolution display with 1,000 cd/m² (1000 Nits) brightness – good for bright sunlight on the screen

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Wi-Fi is perfect for use with Navionics Boating App to show GPS and AIS targets on the App screen.

Display Engine gauges, cameras for security and as mooring aids

Connect an Onwa radar – its plug and play over a 1Gb standard network connection, all the controls are built into every version of the K-Astral plotters. The connection to an Onwa radar is over two cables, a 2 core +/- power cable and what is essentially a standard network cable. The cables as,supplied are, of course, marinised versions, but I mention this as the days of a radar connection cable costing many hundreds of pounds are over as the network cable can be replaced at any local computer shop and the power at any electrical shop.

K-Astral 8 and 12 come in four versions:

1.      K-Astral - the essential chart plotter

2.      K-Astral A version – the exact same plotter but with a CE and FC certified Class B+ AIS transceiver/transponder built-in. See other vessels around your boat and transmit your own boat information – AIS must be one of the greatest technologies invented for safety at sea. These are Class B+, the most up to date version of AIS for leisure and small professional boat users. With a minimum 5 Watt transmission power and the latest SOTDMA technology it is an improvement over the original Class B that is still, surprisingly, available from some manufacturers.

3.      K-Astral C – this version has a chirp technology sonar built in that will show a detailed sonar image of the seabed; a considerable aid when anchoring. For fishing purposes, it will also show the presence of fish even giving you an approximate estimation of size. AVES Maine sonar equiped K-Astral plotters come with a side scan chirp transducer at no additional cost - these are often an unmentioned  add on addition from other suppliers..
